Overview

This community is to aid Internationalization (i18n) and Localization (l10n) of OpenSolaris software components. By participating in this community, together, we will be able to make OpenSolaris to speak your languages and cultural conventions even better.

What are I18n & L10n?

I18n is a way of designing and producing software that can be easily adapted to any regions of the world. Internationalized software can be localized or adapted to different languages and cultures with minimal effort. To be a bit more formal on the definitions:
  • I18n is the process of making software portable between languages and regions, while l10N is the process of adapting software for specific languages and regions.
  • L10n involves establishing online information to support a language or region, called a locale, that can be dynamically loaded to the software during runtime.
